RSIRD aims to promote and support research and reflective initiatives with a view to inform educational policies and practices, and to improve educational outcomes.

Yes, within the European Commission, the RSIRD is a member of the Eurydice network and represents Malta on the Standing Group on Indicators and Benchmarks in Education. Furthermore, RSIRD actively participates in research collaborations, knowledge exchange, and participation in global research networks, mainly through the ERASMUS+ programme.

You need to obtain authorization from RSIRD prior to contacting individuals within schools or MEYR directorates or entities. To apply, you need to fill out an online form found here and send additional documents by email. Further information on this can be found here.

After you complete the online form, you need to submit additional documentation by email. A list of the required documents can be found on the website, and this includes: 

-Information Letter and Request for Permission to be sent to the head of school, directorate or entity; 

-Informed Consent Forms for adult participants or for legally responsible parents/guardians of minors; 

-Informed Assent Form for children or minors. 

Any letters aimed at Maltese parents and children must be supplied in both Maltese and English. Templates of these letters can be found here.

Researchers can use publicly available data without permission. For non-public data, a request must be submitted through this form.

Once you complete your research report, dissertation or paper, please send a soft copy, by email, to RSIRD and the Head of the respective School, Institute, or Organization where the research was conducted.

Researchers are authorized to use the data only for the specific research for which permission was granted. To extend the scope, please submit a written request to rsird.meyr@gov.mt.

Researchers must conform to the principles of ethical research conduct as specified in the RSIRD’s Research Ethics Policy and Procedures.

RSIRD often invites schools and organisations to participate in research projects. Should a school or organisation require support with planning and/or executing their research or school development planning initiatives,  they can contact the Directorate by email on rsird.meyr@gov.mt.

Students wishing to work with the Research and School Internal Review Directorate are to apply to the Traineeship Schemes managed by the Institute for the Public Service, which may be contacted on ips@gov.mt and 22001884.
