International Relations

Forming part of the EU Affairs, International Relations, Research and Policy Development Directorate, the International Relations Unit co-ordinates with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on matters related to bilateral affairs that are not directly linked to the ambit of the EU. 
 
Besides the drafting, ratification, implementation and review of Education-related agreements in which Malta appears as a signatory, the Unit is also responsible for the formulation of MEDE’s position on various issues for intervention at international fora, via an extensive consultation process with all Directorates / Department / Entities falling within MEDE’s portfolio. 
 
The International Affairs Unit coordinates and assists in the process with respect to scholarships falling under several bilateral agreements, from the issuing of calls to the provision of assistance to the students during their stay for the scholarships falling under the various bilateral agreements. The Unit also coordinates the drafting of various new bilateral agreements.
 
The Unit also analyses documentation originating from international institutions related to the Ministry’s portfolio and liaises with different Directorates and Entities on International Affairs.
